About the Mission District

The Mission District is known as the oldest neighborhood in San Francisco. It was established in 1776 and was named after the Mission Dolores. It is commonly referred to simply as “The Mission”. This neighborhood, along with Bernal Heights and Potrero Hill, are prized within the San Francisco real estate market for their fog-free days, which cannot be said for most other neighborhoods in San Francisco.

The Mission District is like a melting pot of cultures, cuisines, and activities. It is located close to other notable San Franciscan neighborhoods such as Noe Valley, The Castro, Lower Haight, Bernal Heights, Hayes Valley and more. The Mission is defined by its incongruity. The atmosphere and attractions differ from street to street. This diversity is also one of the things that make it so unique.

The Mission District has a strong bicycle and bus culture. Hence, it is a microcosm of the San Franciscan way of life, which also explains why residents love it so much and tourists are so intrigued by it. The well-known Mission Dolores Park, simply “Dolores Park”, is located close to the Mission District, and is a popular destination for Mission residents. Shopping in the Mission is also great. On one street, you will find convenience kiosks and bodegas, while on another street are designer shops and high-end boutiques. There is something for everyone in the Mission District.
