Haight Ashbury

About Haight-Ashbury

Haight-Ashbury is a district in San Francisco that is named after the two streets that intersect with each other: Haight and Ashbury. This district is also known as “The Upper Haight”, or simply “The Haight”.

Haight-Ashbury is one of the most famous districts in San Francisco due to its unique and colorful vibe. Made famous by the hippie movement in the 1960’s, Haight Ashbury was once the home to revolutionaries, famous singers (including the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin) and cult leaders. In fact, it was home to the ‘Summer of Love’ in 1967. To this day, the rich and vibrant history of this community is still evident.

Today, Haight-Ashbury continues to be one of the most interesting neighborhoods in San Francisco.  The colorful, Victorian homes continue to remind us of the cultural significance the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood has on historic and modern-day San Francisco. The neighborhood thrives with many tourist shops, restaurants and creative artwork.
